Kalimantan Tour Package 14 Days 13 Nights - Dive Islands, River Boats, and Orangutans of Kalimantan 

 

DAY 1 : PANGKALAN BUN – KUMAI – PARK (L & D)

Your guide will collect you from the Pangkalan Bun Airport for transfer to the port of Kumai to board your boat. It is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat about 12m by 2.5m with an upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides. The boat team includes the boatman, a cook, and an expert guide. In the peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the quiet river by the klotok to observe the wildlife, such as long noses monkey, long tail macaques, and birds along the riverside. Lastly, dinner and overnight on the boat. The boat has very simple mattresses, pillows, and toilet facilities. The boatmen will prepare all the meals. Bottled “mineral” water and mosquito nets are available on the boat.

 

DAY 2 : PONDOK TANGGUY – CAMP LEAKEY (B, L & D)

After breakfast, cruise up the river for Pondok Tangguy, the third rehabilitation center for orangutans; see feeding time at 09.00 am. Later travel to a side creek through tea-colored water to see the perfect reflections from the vegetation along the river. Furthermore, you may even see freshwater crocodiles. The next visit is to Camp Leakey, the research center, where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. Set off on an easy and pretty trek through the tropical rainforest to see orangutans, birds, and other rainforest animals and jungle plants. In short, keep an eye out for noisy gibbons, deer, and wild boar. Back to the boat for lunch before returning to see the old rehabilitated orangutans' feeding time at 2 p.m. Overnight on the ship. Return to the boat for dinner and move to a quiet mooring for the night.

 

DAY 3 : KUMAI – AIRPORT – RUNGAN SARI RESORT (B)

Free morning program until time transfer to Kumai, then to Pangkalan Bun airport for flight to Sampit and road transfer to Rungan Sari Resort. Lunch along the road and dinner by own arrangement from the hotel.

 

DAY 4 : PALANGKA RAYA – START CRUISE (B, L & D)

Meet at Palangka Raya airport and transfer your boat to Palangka Raya harbor to start your journey. Cruise past the stilted and floating houses of the provincial capital and continue upriver along the forest-lined river, passing villages. Take a canoe through the shimmering black water lakes in the early evening. Watch for probosci monkeys, hornbills, and Brahmini kites. Return to the boat for a quiet dinner in the jungle.

 

DAY 5 : BAPALLAS ISLAND – TANGKILING (B, L & D)

The boat moves up the Rungan River as you enjoy breakfast. On arrival at Bapallas Island, take a motorized canoe to observe orangutans. Leisurely lunch onboard while cruising to Kanarakan, a tiny riverside village on the Rungan River, passing Kaja IslandBapallas Island, an orangutan pre-release island, for further sightings of orangutans. Arriving in the afternoon, the village elder, Dayak Ngaju, gives a welcoming ceremony. We then stroll around the village with a local host to see the village home gardens, rubber field & rubber tapping demonstration, and other village livelihoods. Visit the elder’s house and enjoy the traditional spices of coffee while sharing stories. Back to the boat and cruise down to Lake Tahai. Overnight.

 

DAY 6 : SEI GOHONG – MUARA RUNGAN (B, L & D)

Optional dawn canoeing to the lake for bird watching. Leisurely breakfast on board. Visit the village of Sei Gohong to meet the traditional medicine expert, then take a short walk to the nearby forest to find several plants used as conventional medications by the Ngajus. Back to the village and see an enormous collection of traditional medicines and discuss their functions with the locals; back to the boat and cruise downstream to Muara Rungan, passing Katimpun village. Overnight near Muara Rungan.

 

DAY 7 : MUARA RUNGAN - PALANGKA RAYA – BALIKPAPAN (B, L)

Enjoy your last breakfast on the boat. Transfer off the ship to the handicraft market and have lunch at a traditional Dayak restaurant before transfer to the airport. Upon arrival at Balikpapan airport, meeting service and transfer to your hotel in Balikpapan. Dinner is at own arrangement.

 

DAY 8 : SAMARINDA, MAHAKAM (B, L & D)

You will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to Loa Janan to board a houseboat for an exciting adventure on the Mahakam River. Meals are provided overnight on the houseboat.

 

DAY 9 : MUARA MUNTAI, MANCONG, TANJUNG ISUY, MUARA PAHU (B, L & D)

Explore Muara Muntai Wooden Village, cruise through Jempang Lake, and spot rainforest wildlife at Ohong Creek. Experience a traditional ceremony at Mancong's historic Dayak Benuaq Longhouse. Visit Tanjung Isuy and enjoy dinner and an overnight stay on a houseboat. Conclude your journey with a downstream cruise to Tenggarong—an unforgettable adventure in East Kalimantan.

 

DAY 10 : TENGGARONG – BALIKPAPAN – BERAU (B, L & D)

Arrive at Tenggarong, visiting the former palace of Sultan Kutai Kertanegara. You will see Sultan's impressive collection of heirlooms, ceramics, Dayak's art, and cultural items until departure transfer to Balikpapan airport for your onward flight to Berau. Lastly, overnight Berau.

 

DAY 11 : BERAU - DERAWAN ARCHIPELAGO RESORT (B, L & D)

After breakfast, transfer to the harbor by car (approx 2,5 hours) to board the speedboat to cross the Sulawesi Sea to Nanukan or Maratua Island. Check-in at the resort. To sum up, relax on the beautiful coral island and enjoy four dives (optional extra cost) at different places over the two days. Beach comb or snorkel or relax in the ambiance of this tiny coral island, all to yourself.

 

DAY 12 : SANGALAKI & KAKABAN ISLANDS (B, L & D)

Early in the morning, transfer by speedboat(optional extra cost) to Sangalaki Island, which is called the Capital of the Mantas Rays; many kinds of exotic fish can be seen in this area, like the Mantas, Napoleons, purple sea horses, tunicates, dwarf scorpionfishes, and not to forget the Coral Sea Garden which is still intact. Continue to Kakaban Island, the island with non-sting jellyfish on the inside and a beautiful coral wall garden on the outside. Return to the resort.

 

DAY 13 : MARATUA & GUSUNG ISLANDS (B, L & D)

Full day (optional extra cost) explore Maratua Island (Cristal cave, Gusung Island, and jellyfish lake).

 

DAY 14 : NUNAKAN ISLAND – JAKARTA (B)

Breakfast in the resort before boarding the speedboat for return to Berau airport—Lastly, the tour ends.
